Official launch of the pilot phase of the Physical Activity Prescription (PAP) scheme
The Ministry of Health and Social Security today announced the official launch of the pilot phase of the Physical Activity Prescription (PAP) scheme.
This project was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport, the National Institute for Physical Activity and Sport, the FLASS, the Circle of General Practitioners and the Luxembourg Society of Sports Doctors. The digital tool for issuing a PAP was developed by the Agence eSanté and is now available to doctors participating in this pilot phase on the eSanté Portal, using their eSanté account.
Until the end of 2026, this pilot phase will be aimed at adult patients suffering from cardiovascular disease, cancer and/or type 2 diabetes who are inactive or do not get enough physical activity. Eligible individuals will be able to benefit from six months of paid membership fees for partner associations offering adapted physical activity classes, promoting a gradual return to activity and helping to alleviate symptoms related to their conditions. These include the Luxembourg Association of Sports Groups for Heart Patients, the Luxembourg Association of Sports Groups for Cancer Patients, Think Pink, the Cancer Foundation and the Luxembourg Diabetes Association.
Discussions are underway to organise additional training sessions for doctors, with a view to extending the scheme to other doctors who wish to join.
The operational and qualitative aspects of the PAP scheme will be continuously evaluated throughout the year and at the end of the pilot phase. This evaluation will also take into account the experiences of prescribing doctors, patients and FLASS member associations.
